Orlando Solar Bears

There will soon be a new way to stay cool in the sweltering Florida heat. The Orlando Solar Bears are about to break the ice - or ground, rather - on their new 125,000 square foot hockey and training facility in Winter Garden. The Orlando Hockey Center is currently under development on the 16-acre plot of land on East Crown Point Rd, just off of Plant Street. While games will continue to be at the Amway Center in downtown Orlando, the administrative offices, locker rooms, and practices will be held at the Winter Garden facility.

The new multi-purpose community center will feature not one, but two sheets of ice, and will host youth hockey games and tournaments, college and men’s leagues, as well as figuring skating.

The Solar Bears came out of hibernation in 2012, 11 seasons after the IHL minor league team of the same name was disbanded in 2001. The new Orlando Solar Bears team is a professional minor league team and members of the ECHL Eastern Conference.

Oh, and keep your eyes peeled around town. After morning practice and afternoon training, players often spend time in the community volunteering and making appearances. We know they’ll love it here in Winter Garden and will soon feel right at home. Welcome Orlando Solar Bears!
