A favorite stop at the Farmers Market each week is Allison’s Apiaries, where you can purchase local honey and related products from Advanced Beekeeper Paul Allison and his family. Paul has been in the beekeeping business since the ripe young age of 12 when he earned the Beekeeping Merit from the Boy Scouts of America. He has now been keeping bees and producing honey for 42 years! He is also working toward becoming a Master Beekeeper in the University of Florida program.
Paul’s apiaries (bee yards) can be found at Bio-Sphere and Matthew’s Hope in Winter Garden as well as in Ocoee and St. Cloud. He also has apiaries at an organic orange grove in West Winter Garden and at Ferndale Nursery in Clermont. He currently manages approximately 100 hives with the goal of having nearly 500 in the near future. Being a family business, Paul, his wife, and five children all assist in extracting, bottling, labeling and selling the honey! He is also in the process of installing a certified pouring facility so he can sell his local honey at the wholesale and retail level.
Paul’s love for all things bees and honey lead him to give back to the community by conducting educational training regarding beekeeping and honey making for many local schools and other organizations. He also assists in removing honey bees from buildings, trees, water meters and electrical boxes.
So, that’s the buzz on local beekeeper Paul Allison of Allison’s Apiaries!
