With a population of almost 43,000, Winter Garden, Florida, has been named the third best small city in Central Florida for launching a business in WalletHub’s 2018 list of the Best and Worst Cities to Start a Business. In addition, Winter Garden has been designated as the best city to raise a family in Florida by SmartAsset. In addition to its high ranking locally, Winter Garden ranks in the top 15 percent nationally on the list of most business-friendly cities. To determine the best small cities in which to start a business, the financial website WalletHub compared 1,261 cities nationwide with residential populations of between 25,000 and 100,000 across three key dimensions: overall business environment, access to resources, and business costs. Researchers then analyzed 18 other factors, including the average growth in the number of small businesses, to investor access to labor costs.
Besides its allure for small businesses, Winter Garden is the best place to raise a family in Florida, according to the personal finance website SmartAsset. Winter Garden received a first place ranking in the 2018 study that analyzed data on 65 cities in Florida to determine the best places to raise a family. The following 11 factors were considered in the study: family poverty rate, average deficit for families in poverty, high school graduation rate, percent of population under 20 years old, median monthly housing costs, median household income, property crime rate, violent crime rate, percent change in median values from 2011 to 2015, unemployment rate, and child care costs. A city’s final score was based on its average ranking across all metrics. The data placed Winter Garden in first place on the list of “The Best Cities to Raise a Family in Florida.”
